Content may be edited for purposes of length and/or clarity. Name-calling, demonizing of groups, profanity, or any form of hate speech will not be allowed on the site.
By uploading your content to the website, you grant a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, license to AFSC to use, copy, transmit or otherwise distribute, publicly display, prepare derivative works of, make available and otherwise communicate to the public your content.
Please note: There may be a delay of up to several days between the time you post your story and the time that it is available to the general public
Information we collect
Our web servers do automatically collect some non-identifying basic information from your visit to help measure web site activity and improve our site. This information includes standard information exposed any time you visit a web site including your IP address, browser type, computer type, the pages requested, and referring web site.
Like many other websites, the AFSC web site uses cookies to help us distinguish repeat visitors from first-time visitors and give us helpful information about how our pages are viewed, and to aid some of our advanced tools. We do not use cookies to collect personal, identifiable information without your knowledge.
In addition, AFSC uses third-party services throughout the Sites, such as Google Analytics, to place first-party and/or third-party cookies on devices that access the Sites. These cookies enable AFSC to track how our Sites are used, which portions of the Sites are visited and which items our visitors find most interesting. To opt out of use of our cookies for tracking, you may visit Google’s advertising policy page.
We also use certain third party service providers to place advertisements to market AFSC on sites across the web. We place a cookie on your browser, and then a service such as Google reads these cookies and may serve an ad for AFSC on a 3rd party site. You may opt out of this ad serving by visiting Google’s advertising policy page. If you are concerned about 3rd party cookies served by networks, you should also visit the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
On occasion, we may conduct online surveys to learn more about our audience and their preferences. Information requested on such surveys is not personally identifying and will be used only in aggregate for research purposes (except in cases where you request follow up information or specifically consent to another use).
We want to be clear. We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide such information.
Use of cookies
Cookies are small, text-only files that are stored on your computer and that can be used to help identify you when you visit any of the Sites. A cookie cannot read data off of your computer hard disk, nor can it read cookie files created by other websites. We may use cookies to make visiting and using our Sites easier, for instance, so that you do not have to continually re-enter information and so that we can tailor the Sites to your expressed preferences.
Most web browsers accept cookies. However, if you wish, you can usually set your browser to refuse cookies, or to notify you when you receive a new cookie. Note that if cookies are disabled, you may not be able to enjoy all the interactive features of the Sites. For more information about cookies, including instructions on how to stop cookies being installed on your browser, please see www.allaboutcookies.org.
Blocking and removal of content
AFSC reserves the right to block, remove or delete any Content at any time, and to limit or restrict access to any Content, for any reason and without liability and without limitation.
Indemnification
By uploading a story, you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless AFSC, its successors, assigns, affiliates, agents, directors, officers, and employees from and against any and all claims, obligations, damages, losses, expenses, and costs, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, resulting from: i) any violation by you of these Terms of Use; ii) any third party claim of infringement of copyright or other intellectual property rights or invasion of privacy arising from the hosting of your Content and the actual use of your Content by members of the public; and iii) any activity related to your Content, be it by you or by any other person accessing your account with or without your consent.
Volunteering personal data
You may voluntarily submit your email address or other personally identifying data to take part in an activity on the site, such as to share your story on the site and use social media to share your story once it is posted. In this case, we will use your information to identify your story or stories. We may also send you occasional messages about other AFSC programs and information sources. You can unsubscribe from an AFSC mailing list at any time by responding to the instructions provided at the bottom of each message. We do not share our email lists with other organizations.
If you have any questions about or want to correct any information you have shared with AFSC via one of AFSC’s web sites or email lists, please contact us by email at actioncenter@afsc.org.
