I was a Volunteer

From field notes, AFSC Coal Relief Section, 1931

We are having the boys build a log cabin at Westbourne (near LaFollette, Tennessee). The superintendent is...going to help us by furnishing all the logs we want, and all the essential materials--even electrify the house. This cabin is to be used as a club house for the camp. Every person in the camp is to bring a pretty stone to build the fireplace. We want to organize a real community spirit. This same group of boys are going to build all the furniture. One boy has built a lovely radio cabinet and it is really good. The group of girls are going to make draperies, pillows, etc. I have never seen people become so enthusiastic as we all are over this project.
