I was a Volunteer

Excerpt from the monthly report for May, 1949, Koblenz Neighborhood Center, Germany

It is indeed heart breaking when a sweet little old lady, so weak from hunger that she can go no farther, comes to the door to ask for something to eat. The meal which we are able to give her and the small amount of food she receives to take along are not an answer to the problem, for she will be hungry again tomorrow. This one old lady is only one out of many who come to our attention each week.

During the month of May, 4,848 pieces of clothing were given out, 339 pairs of shoes and 59 blankets to 1,078 persons.
